Most people think that a vacation will be a relaxing getaway. But, it isn’t always the case, anything can happen when you travel including the very bad things you have never ever thought would happen to you. Of course, you don’t want to pay incredibly overpriced medical bills or lose much money if you lose your wallet during your trip. People often overlook travel insurance as part of their vacation because there is a little chance people likely get trouble on vacation. Whether you are traveling abroad or to the next state you should consider travel insurance.

Why you need travel insurance?

Travel Insurance makes sure that if you do encounter an unexpected circumstance you will be reimbursed.

Some of the reasons to have insurance are to cover medical expenses, life insurance for your family, or trip insurance when something goes wrong such as lost luggage, lost wallet and money, flight cancel, etc.

If you have medical coverage, check with your insurer the specifics regarding your planned destination. You can buy medical coverage for the duration of your trip or for longer periods. Some travel insurance policies cover multiple trips in specific period. Some will cover you for travel up to a year. . You may consider dental coverage to be included in your travel insurance.

  • Evacuation

If you plan to take adventure travel like skiing or mountain climbing, you may want to consider evacuation insurance. If you need to be rescued it is quite possible that you will end up with a hefty bill to pay for the service.

  • Cancellation

If you are going on a cruise, taking an organized tour or just flying on an airplane you may want trip cancellation insurance. There are things you can’t control that can mess your travel plans up. Your plans may change unexpectedly if you or a family member may get sick at the last minute for example. Many companies (airlines, tour operators, cruise lines, etc) do not offer refunds for cancellation in short notice. You could lose thousands of dollars. It is not easy to get refunds sometimes, even for a small part of total cost.

One of the most common problems when traveling is lost luggage. You might have thousands of dollars of goods onto a flight, especially if you are moving to a new country. Travel insurance acts to insure whatever items are lost or stolen so you are able to replace your belongings.

If you are taking a road trip out of the country, you need to check with your auto insurer for the specific coverage. You may need to purchase any extra coverage needed. Auto breakdowns and accidents are bad enough at home but the problems are compounded abroad. If you rent a car, check the coverage of your rental car.

Other travel insurance coverage includes travel delay, 24 Hour traveler assistance, and accidental death.

  • Some credit card companies provide insurance coverage if you purchase your vacation with their card such as airline ticket. Check with your credit card company for the extra coverage for travel package.
  • If you are traveling with a group you may be able to get coverage cheaper as a group rather than individually.
  • Sometimes you will pay more for less coverage if you buy it through a travel agent who makes a nice commission. Shop around and do online insurance search for the best deal.
  • With the terrorism treats around the globe nowadays, you may want to include the extra coverage caused by terrorism in your travel insurance. These events are completely random and can’t be predicted. If a terrorist act suddenly breaks out in the city that you have booked a flight to, you will not get a refund if you cancel your flight because of terrorism unless you have travel insurance with extra coverage with terrorism case.

If you don’t want to take a risk of losing a lot of money for unexpected circumstances when you travel, you definitely need proper travel insurance. The travel insurance will assure you that your lost money will be replaced.
